We have updated the rules for 2008 and have them posted online. Please read through them and make sure everyone has the proper safety equipment for their class. Every racer that registers will be given a copy and asked to sign a form indicating the racer has read and understood the rules. After this next race at Soboba, the rules will be enforced with no exceptions. We have had some racers come to the staging lanes without the proper safety eqipment. After this Soboba race, if the racer does not have the proper equipment, they will not go down the track (time runs or eliminations). With the number of cars going down the track, we must enforce some simple safety rules. This is for everyone`s safety and hope that everyone understands our position. Safety is very important to us and we don`t want to see anyone getting hurt doing the sport they love! Respectfully, NSDA

My only question is Why was this not addressed in the off season when we had time- and most of all some extra money to buy/install these new updated safety rules????????????
When I was teched in Yuma all that was said about my car was that I needed arm restraints and that is it.... No trans blanket, parachute, crotch straps etc....
Just seems like the wrong time to implement these rules- why not wait until the summer break or the off season that just passed.... Just my .02 |

We do understand the issues of time to get things implemented. As far as some of the rules, 5 point harnesses have been in the rules since last year. Trans blanket was also required last year. As far as some of the other issues, if we continue to wait, we run the risk of injuring someone if an incident happens. With the amount of cars going down the track, the chances of things going wrong are higher. If we continue to wait, we are asking for trouble. Most of these rules have been in affect, we are just going to be alert on enforcing these rules. Time and time again, we have racers coming to the lanes and racing without the proper safety equipment. There is no time like the present to make our cars safer. There are a million reasons to put it off to a later date, but safety should not be sacrificed. We will do everything we can to work with racers and get people informed.

| Still seems like the wrong time to do this stuff- We just had 3 months off???? Plenty of time to do these changes- Looks like we will just have to take some time off from the track to get the work done- looks like we will see you after the summer break..... |

I do not understand why some people would gripe about there safety.. every vehicle that has went thru tech has been notified about the safety rule changes, if you have neglected it or forgot, step up and take the responsibility, dont try to blame it on someone else...if You cant afford $200 for safety equipment, then You shouldn't be racing anyhow, because You evidently dont put much value on Your life, or Your competitors. Nuff said...

| Huh.. I don't see any rules here at the NSDA that have never applied at any other organization. So with that in mind, why the gripe? |

This coming from the guy who pulls the car to and from the staging lanes... Nobody is complaining about THEIR safety or the new safety rules, but the timing of the rules change. We all want to be safe at the race track and everyone go home with no injuries. When the NSDA tech official looked at my car the only thing that was mentioned was arm restraints, not that there was going to be some major rules changes. If you know where I can get a good chute and trans blanket for $200 let me know I will take it.....
Thanks for your input.... You always seem to shed some light on things for me.... |

You may want to get clarrification from Jody if you need a transblanket. It says NHRA approved sheild or blanket. I know the good SFI powerglide cases like what is in Tiffany's car is SFI approved and does not require a blanket. I am not sure what the SFI is on the Lenco case is. I run a blanket on my Lenco because it is in between my feet but being that yours is in a dragster the case may be SFI approved to not need a blanket. Jody correct me if I am wrong. If you do need a blanket then post an add on insidetopalcohol.com that you are looking for a used one and normally you can get one for under $150 for a two speed blanket with reverser that will cover your two speed with the reducer section.

All planetary gear-type transmissions must have a sfi approved blanket or shield.
This is straight from the rule book Nick- I appreciate the input- I will go over to ITA and see what I can find- Pete and I both will need one. I did just find a brand new one for about $200 though also.... Just going to have to look around and see what we can find in the next month or two.....
