I spent some time at the sand sport show in Phoenix this weekend. There seemed to be quite a bit of interest in the Rhino class!

I personally think that Rhino's are getting a bad rap, or rep... this is a mechanical device, it does not steer itself, start itself, or turn itself over, or run into things by itself. The statement some people are putting out towards these vehicles are unfair, A person who is "Drunk" or reckless, who drives a Dodge Caravan, or a corvette, and injures themselves or someone else, do they blame those Car manufactures.... Just a thought I have personally put over 1500 miles on My Rhino with no incidents, and have been thru every type of terrain from Rock Crawling to Sand Duning. I'm just asking that they be judged fairly when setting up any rules or Tech for these vehicles, if a race format may be put in place for these. Thanks for listening....just get tired of people not taking responsibility for thier actions. I'll get off my pedestal Now.

Well MAC, we will be adding the Rhino class for Yuma ONLY at this time. We still don't have all the bugs worked out on the class but it will be a new class on the schedule.

CHACHY: ARE YOU GOING TO TRY THIS RHINO CLASS AT THE JAN. YUMA RACE? I HEAR THE T&A TEAM MAY NOT BE BRINGING THE TE CAR TO YUMA. SO CHRIS ADAMSON NEEDS A CLASS THAT HE HAS A CHANCE AT WINNING! YOU KNOW THIS ELDER PRIMATE IS AFRAID OF HIS LITTLE APE BOY! THATS WHY HE WONT ENTER THE PRO INDEX CLASS.

Rhinos by design in the stock form tip over with ease. Center of gravity with one person is off just to start. Most sanctioning bodies that allow them to compete have very specific safety standards and tech prior to running them on a track. I have watched them roll on motocross tracks, Off road events, and in pits at all styles of events including sand drags that I provide medical for. I realize that it seems simple for someone to jump on and drive. What kind of impact will the stock cage absorb? I will stand by for anything that goes down the track but I know that if there is competition, people will do whatever to win. They will upgrade the motors, go faster, be lighter, and challenge other vehicles in their classes. Harness and side panels only help if attached to the right frame, and the right way. I would simply suggest that you do your homework and look at other sanctioning bodies that race UTV's and use their experience to make decisions when starting an unknown class. I posted a link previously to Best in the Desert's UTV class as they race them the most. Look at some of the things that they do for safety. My personal opinion for what it's worth, it should not have even been used for the junior class. Does a juvinile know what to do when his yamaha 750 has a throttle stick wide open down a track?

I realize I am not a racer and therefore my voice maybe is not as strong but every event that I dont meet a racer by accident is my favorite.

The track crew doesn't have anything to do until 6am on saturday. I'm sure they would enjoy getting some more experiance with the lights and stuff.

2nd place is better than 3rd.

LOOKS LIKE IF YOU RUN A RHINO/CART CLASS THAT RUNS 7 SEC AND SLOWER THEY NEED TO BE IN THIER OWN CLASS.

LARRY WHAT WOULD BE WRONG WITH RUNNING THEM AT THE END OF THE DAY ON FRIDAY, BACK TO BACK? THIS WAY YOU CAN CHECK OUT THE INTEREST. PLUS YOU CAN SEE HOW QUICK THEY CAN RUN!

WHY ALL THIS TALK? THEY LOOK LIKE CARS, SO PUT THEM IN THE CAR CLASS. IF THEY CAN'T GET IT DONE OH WELL...

I WOULD DRIVE, BUT THEY WONT LET ME DRINK

One of the race groups we serve is Best in the Desert racing which I believe is the most successful groups racing Rhinos currently. I thought I would post a link for the tech inspection that they require at races. While much is isolated to desert racing such as first aid, and survival supplies, there is several sections on specfic requirements for the vehicle that could give some of you Rhino folks an idea of what it takes to go "pro" in Rhino world.

i just bought a new rhino and would love for my wife to race in a rhino class.i think as for safety goes the stock seat belts suck so i would recomend 4 point or higher harness.as for speed when raced in Mexicali top speed in a rhino was 68mph.in 4wd low

I have seen rhinos and other utv's race off road and they are fast. My concern would be safety. I have seen these things log roll 5 or 6 times just by getting a little twisted. It would be a fun addition just need to be safe.

i just got word that most of the rhinos at the planetsand races ran between 7 and 8 seconds. they did a bracket race so it was fair to everyone. i also got 1 more and maybe 4 others to race. so now were up to 9-12 entries. anyone eles?
