Now, I am a asphalt racer so I hope I am not saying the wrong thing here, but I am a real believer in the Hutchens Device (a head and neck support) I don't know if the sand drivers are wearing them, but lots of us hard surface drivers are wearing them every time down the track. If you are interested, I am going to have a show about the device on Speed Scene Live real soon. I will show you how easy they are to use, and they offer real hard core protection for the neck and spine. No such thing as being too safe or too protected! Speed Scene Live can be watched anytime right over your own computer just by going to www.speedscenracing.com, visit the archives page and click on a show. |

Posted - 11/13/2006 : 8:15:04 PM Thanks Ted I have checked into it(hans). When John crashed last year he rolled 3 times and slid about 300ft upside down and he was sore for about 8weeks and a tempory headache that lasted 6weeks.I know blah blah comes with the territory but my life insurance doesn't pay if he dies from this expensive hobby. We sure will miss seeing Jim run BlueThunder at our home track in Missouri (the michigan guys put on a good show too)Now lets see what Rod can do. Thank guys for your help...Nancy |

Posted - 11/13/2006 : 4:19:07 PM Wifeofadriver, The pads in my roll cage are made by Butler Built Seat Systems. They replace the "roll bar padding" that is mandatory in NHRA. I will not drive a race car with out them!!! Last year at Tulare I hit the finish lights and went out to the side of the shut down the car bounced very hard and I had a stiff neck for a couple of weeks. I then installed the head pads and after Primm was glad I did. I will try to get the phone number. I was at Pomona this past weekend and watched the sales rep measure four cars myself. PM me if you would like more info. Thanks Joe PS 704-784-1027

Posted - 11/13/2006 : 3:21:31 PM The "padded guards" are commonly known as "roll bar padding". They are available through a number of distributors such as jegs or summit. Most are made by a company named Jaz Products. Jaz`s helmet bar padding is sfi certified...good stuff! Every roll cage should be equipped with "roll bar padding" any where a drivers helmet can cantact the cage. Hope this helps!

Posted - 11/13/2006 : 2:03:26 PM As you can see by the screen name I am the wife of a driver. We are from Missouri and made our first trip to Primm and witnessed Joe and Dennis wreck. My husband crashed last year in St.Louis and I have been looking for every way I can for him to protect his self as much as possible.I looked in Joe's roll cage and seen he had what appears to me for lack of knowledge I will call them padded guards{long, slender, thick}could someone tell me where to get them. Also I am looking for a dragster cover that is 300inches long all I can find is 240 and 280.John's car is the big black "totally disturbed" car Con-Tec Racing. |

Posted - 11/08/2006 : 1:08:11 PM Something to remember too, our race track is very close to the dune area, and most of our racers came from the dunes with their stuff and started racing. Our track has been around a while too, when it was built NOBODY ran 2.anything, much less how fast the cars have gotten today. Hey Frank, maybe you could skip one of your out west trips and buy some more property at the end of the track for shut down?? That way you and Ted and do battle at home, not driving all the way out west. |

Posted - 11/08/2006 : 05:37:16 AM TFDRAGSTER, Michigan has no top fuel cars because we have no place to run one. We have only one track in Michigan that we can run our "slow" top alchohol cars, Albright Shores. West Micihigan is a great race track but has very little shut down area. The closest track for us to race is 13 hours away in Missouri. You guys don't know how lucky you are to have the great tracks you get to in less that 4 hours. Jim Bailey finally got sick of it and sold his car this week to a very skilled racer that lives in Oklahoma. Keep in mind that the track in Hemet is 2468 miles each way from my doorstep and the average trip out west for us cost about $5000 and takes about 36 hours to get there. We plan on coming out your way 3 times next year and giving it our best shot. I hope this helps explain the fact that we really enjoy racing against you guys and we have a great time out there but its not like going to the store for a loaf of bread. P.S If I lived in California you bet your ass I would have a fuel car. |
